Star
Star offers specialised support and advocacy for trans and non-binary individuals who are at risk of, or survivors of, gender-based violence.
Star is a trauma-informed support service for transgender, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming people who have, or are experiencing, gender-based violence (GBV). We are dedicated to the safety and wellbeing of the trans community. Our service is free and confidential.
Gender-based violence is any harmful act directed against a person based on their actual or perceived sex, gender identity, or sexual identity. It can be physical, psychological, sexual, or financial. These actions are often very specific to the individual, with the intent to intimidate or control the targeted person.
Trans and gender non-conforming individuals are particularly affected by GBV, often experiencing multiple forms of abuse due to their gender identity. GBV may can be committed by a partner, family member or stranger.
